Chicken Roasting Time Calculator
How long to roast chicken
As a guide, chicken takes about 45 minutes per kilogram, plus around 20 minutes on top, cooked at 200°C (fan 180°C, gas mark 6). Enter your joint's weight above and the calculator does the arithmetic. Juices should run clear and the thickest part reach 75°C. Rest for 15 minutes before carving.
Weight-based timings are a starting point, not a guarantee: oven calibration, whether the meat went in fridge-cold, and the shape of the joint all matter. The only reliable test is a meat thermometer in the thickest part, away from bone. Convert your oven dial with the oven temperature and gas mark converter.
Frequently asked questions
Is the chicken roasting time converter free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up and nothing to install. It runs entirely in your browser.
Are these figures exact?
They are reliable guides based on standard UK values, but ingredients, ovens and appliances vary. For anything involving meat, always check it is cooked through with a thermometer rather than relying on time alone.
